About Our Painting Trip To Tuscany

We are Pamela Drake, Ellen Ewing, Becky Holden, Marjorie Keith, Mary Kimberl, Karen Kreuter, Felice Simon, Patricia Varcasia, Beth Wachter and I'm Margaret Dyer, the teacher. 

We are going to Casa Al Vento, a small hilltop village surrounded by Tuscan vineyards, where none of us has been before. During our week, we'll be painting from our photos of neighboring villages. It will be a week of exploring, painting, dining and making new friends.

I'll be posting on this blog every day to share our excursions and our resulting paintings, some of which may have links to purchase. We invite you to travel vicariously with us.     Margaret, This looks absolutely fabulous!! Enjoy every moment! And I will be in Sorrento taking a watercolor workshop at the same time! We'll do some exploring on the Amalfi coast as well. I've never spent time in that part of Italy, so I am very excited! We are all so privileged to have these opportunities!! I look forward to your blog as well. Divertiti!

 FRIDAY. We worked all day, taking a break at lunchtime at a nearby village (one of very few). SATURDAY. Our last full day; we leave tomorrow morning. So today we are using every possible moment to finish up some paintings. We even smuggled coldcuts, cheese and fruit from the breakfast buffet to have for lunch while working. It is Friday; we are arriving early. Marjorie, Pam, Beth, Mary, her husband Mark, and I flew from Atlanta, with a short layover in Amsterdam, and arrived in Florence this morning.  Without napping or even brushing our teeth, we spent the day roaming Florence, refreshing ourselves with gelato, braving the very crowded streets (it's high season here) in 85 degree weather. We stepped into leather shops, trying to help Beth decide which gorgeous buttery leather jacket she should purchase. She was smart, she tried on countless jackets, and did not give in to pressure from the equally gorgeous Italian salesmen or us. We'll return tomorrow for her to make a choice. We then did the obligatory walk over Ponte Vecchio.  Ponte Vecchio means old bridge. It i s a  medieval stone  bridge , which has  stood since the mid 1300's,  over the Arno River.  The only bridge in Florence spared from destruction during  World War II , it is noted for the glittering j...
